1.4.1 - Reverse Engineer Competition

Once you found your niche and the broadest keyword/phrase that you will be targeting. Enter your keyword/phrase as a Google search query. Create a spreadsheet and note the:
- Title as it appears in the search engine.
- Description as it appears in the search engine.
- Site Name.
- Site URL.
- PageRank of the Page.
- PageRank of the root URL.
- Age of the domain name.
- Meta Tag Keywords that appears via -> View / Page Source (Control+U in Firefox).
- Page Title that appears via -> View / Page Source (Control+U in Firefox).
- Meta description that appears via -> View / Page Source (Control+U in Firefox).
- Hx Headers on that page (x = 1,2,3,4 or 5).
- Keyword/phrases formatted in bold on that page.
- Outgoing links and anchor text on that page.
- Inbound links, anchor text to that page and the Google PageRank of the linking sites page and root url.
- Demographics and profile of the average visitor.
- How many pages make up the site.
- Purpose of the site and how it makes money.
- Rate the level of interactive content on the site.
- Note the social aspects of the site Details on how to use this information the outrank these web sites will be outlined here.
- Is the site getting traffic using Google Adwords Campaigns.
This will give you:
- A great understanding of your market.
- A great understanding of your competition and whats required to beat them.
- Ideas for your sites name, structure, elements, content and income.
